That was until a boisterous Manchester City fan spotted him sitting on his own and decided to go over and give him a bit of a ribbing.
The unnamed City supporter went over to Neville and took the mickey for United's awful campaign under David Moyes.
DISTURBED: The City fan approached Neville on a train
Neville had worked as the Scot's first-team coach until Moyes was sacked in April.
The City fan said: "Phil, congratulations last season pal.
"You and David Moyes worked wonders - football genius. City, City champions!"
While the City fan might have won the battle Neville had the last word.
Responding to a tweet asking about the incident, the 37-year-old agreed with one poster who called the fan in the video an arsehole.
Neville's future at Old Trafford remains uncertain and the former-England defender recently revealed he had heard nothing about his role going forward under new manager Louis Van Gaal.
