The pair, Holland's captain and coach, are currently plotting a path through a testing World Cup group that includes Spain, Chile and Australia.

But as soon as they are done, Van Gaal will set up a new regime that former Netherlands midfielder Ronald de Boer has described as "strict".

But Van Persie said he favours his compatriot's managerial style, and it is just what United need after a season of comparative failure.

"It is a different sort of approach to what I was used to with previous coaches but I like it," Van Persie said.

"It is a very Dutch way of doing things - very direct but intended to make us better players.

"I have enjoyed the past two years with Holland a great deal. He is very clear in what he says. I am now going to go through another two-year process with Van Gaal and I am looking forward to it."
