Simeone squares up to Varane

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a penalty that made the score 4-1, and his exuberant celebrations angered many 'Rojiblancos' that thought it was over the top.
While passing the centre circle on his way back to his own half, Rafael Varane then kicked the ball towards the Atletico bench, and at this point Simeone's anger boiled over. It seems that it was caused by Varane's gesture and we don't know what other possible reason there could have been, but the Argentine sprinted onto the pitch to threaten the young centre-back.
The fast interventions of Di María and the referee, who eventually sent the manager off, kept the situation in check before it got any worse.
Gabi tried to defuse the situation after the game, saying that Varane had committed an error as a result of his youth.
Simeone explained events at a press conference: "Varane provoked me by kicking the ball at me. Us older guys don't like people doing that kind of thing to us". 'El Cholo did want to apologise, however: "I also made a mistake with my reaction. He's a young guy with a bright future".
