ARSENE WENGER will decide this week whether to firm-up his interest in Gareth Barry with an approach for the ex-England midfielder.
GUNNER GARETH? Wenger is considering a move for out-of-contract Manchester City man Barry
Barry is 33 but has had an outstanding season after joining Everton on loan from Manchester City.
He will be leaving City on a free transfer this summer and Everton manager Roberto Martinez is anxious to sign Barry on a permanent basis.
But Arsenal boss Wenger is eyeing the situation – even though he is well covered in the holding midfield positions.
The Gunners have Mikel Arteta, Mathieu Flamini, Abou Diaby, Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and on-loan Kim Kallstrom who can operate in that role.
But Kallstrom is unlikely to remain with the FA Cup finalists, Diaby has injury issues and Wilshere and Ramsey can also play in advanced positions.
Wenger knows he will have to act quickly to secure Barry as Everton want to agree a deal now.
