Stenhousemuir missed out on the League One play-offs despite defeating Brechin 3-1.

Wins for both Ayr and Stranraer meant they finished inside the top four, ensuring Stenhousemuir were denied extending their season by just a single point.

The visitors went ahead through John Gemmell's 12th-minute penalty, which was awarded to them when Garry Kenneth handled in the area.

That was the way it stayed until eight minutes after the break when Brechin got a penalty of their own, with Chris Smith sent off for his last-man foul on Andrew Jackson. The 11 men levelled as Alan Trouten converted the spot-kick.

But Kenneth conceded his second penalty, this time seeing red for a foul on Ben Greenhalgh, and Gemmell scored again to restore Stenhousemuir's lead.

Greenhalgh made it 3-1 20 minutes from time but results elsewhere left the visitors disappointed.
