Airdrie United 2 : 0 Arbroath - Abroath down to League Two

A 2-0 defeat at Airdrieonians saw Arbroath relegated from Scottish League One.

With East Fife losing 4-1 at Ayr, a draw would have given Paul Sheerin's team a stay of execution and a place in the relegation play-off but they came up agonisingly short.

The fatal blows for the Red Lichties were landed by Caolan McAleer shortly before half-time and substitute Liam Coogans late on.

Kenny Deuchar went close with a header for Arbroath before McAleer scored with a curling shot from the right side of the area after 45 minutes.

Robert Linn and Alan Cook threatened for the visitors in the second half as they pushed for an equalising goal. But they were leaving themselves short at the other end and Coogans converted Liam Watt's corner from close range in the 89th minute.
