Dumbarton 4 : 1 Hamilton FC - Accies lose top spot
Posted Sunday, April 27, 2014 by PA
Ten-man Hamilton's 11-match unbeaten run came to an end in emphatic fashion with a disappointing 4-1 defeat at Dumbarton - a result which saw the Accies relinquish their place at the top of the Scottish Championship.
Scott Agnew set the hosts on their way with a direct free-kick that sneaked beyond Kevin Cuthbert before former Ipswich striker Jason Scotland turned inside the Dumbarton area, just before the break, and beat Jamie Ewings to level the scores.
The Accies' wastefulness cost them dear in the second half, though, when, with 13 minutes to play, Colin Nish headed beyond Cuthbert to restore Dumbarton's lead before Hamilton player-manager Alex Neil saw red for violent conduct.
Sons midfielder Mitchel Megginson added a third after 87 minutes with a cool 20-yard finish before Kirkpatric wrapped up the points after Nish teed him up.
