Getafe vs Malaga preview - Schuster keen to stay with Malaga

Bernd Schuster has pledged his future to Malaga after all but securing survival in his first season in charge.

Monday's 2-0 win over Villarreal took the team on to 41 points and provided a bright ending to a turbulent season.

"We've experienced a difficult year and if you start a project and the plan works, you want to continue building this team, so I would like to continue the project and go further," Schuster told a press conference ahead of Saturday's trip to former club Getafe.

Malaga lie 10th in the Primera Division with four games left, and although Schuster said where his team finished in the table was not important, he insisted they would not lose their focus.

"I think if you are doing a good job, then it doesn't matter if you finish 10th or 11th," he said.

"We're not aiming to finish 10th, I'm not thinking about that. I'm just thinking about being in a comfortable situation and we're going to keep going, we're going to try and make small improvements.

"There won't be any relaxing. We have to take advantage of the fact we don't have the tension we had a few weeks ago. We have to take advantage of the fact we are calmer and we can be a bit braver."

The German also explained he would field the same players in Madrid as he did against Villarreal, with the exception of Nordin Amrabat, who is suspended and will be replaced by Francisco Portillo.

Getafe are in a contrasting situation to Malaga and remain in the relegation zone, although level on points with Real Valladolid, who are one place above them.

The Madrid side have only won one game since November, but midfielder Jaime Gavilan believes the team belong in the top flight.

"I have been at this club for a very long time and relegation has never crossed my mind," he told reporters.

"I want to stay up because Getafe deserve to be in the Primera Division for many more years.

"We've been through bad times and we've been able to find solutions. We believe in ourselves and in this game we will see the players and the fans unite.

"Now is not the time for regrets. What we need to do is play with pride."

Cosmin Contra's side will be without suspended pair Angel Lafita and Alexis Ruano, the latter sent off in the 0-0 draw with Levante last week.
