Posted Sunday, April 20, 2014 by PA

Hamilton had Morton to thank as they moved to the top of the Scottish Championship with a 2-1 win over Alloa.

The home side started the day second in the league after consecutive wins, and they took an early lead when the returning Alex Neil freed Jason Scotland who fired home from inside the area.

Substitue Andrew Ryan doubled the home team's lead immediately after the break, smashing the ball into the back of the net after Scotland had nodded the ball expertly into his path.

As Morton took the lead over Dundee in the second half, Hamilton fans began to celebrate knowing that they would be returning to the top of the table with a win.

Ross Caldwell pulled a goal back for Alloa with a header into the bottom corner to create some nervy moments in the final minutes but Accies held on for a crucial win.
