Alloa Athletic 2 : 0 Greenock Morton - Alloa say goodbye to Morton

Posted Sunday, April 13, 2014 by PA

Morton were relegated while Alloa eased their fears of joining them with a 2-0 win.

Kevin Cawley fired the home side into the lead on 15 minutes with a low header past Derek Gaston.

Joe McKee wasted a chance for Morton before the break but early in the second half Ryan McCord doubled his side's lead by heading home Michael Doyle's ball from six yards.

Ross Caldwell could have made it three, pulling a good chance in the penalty area wide of the goal and, as the final whistle approached, McCord missed a great opportunity from six yards.

The result put the Wasps seven points clear of ninth-placed Cowdenbeath and consigned Morton to Scottish League One next season.
