Torino vs Cagliari preview - Meggiorini wary of Cagliari

Torino striker Riccardo Meggiorini has told his team-mates to beware Cagliari as they try to keep alive their fading hopes of a top-five finish.

The men from Turin host the Sardinians on Sunday sitting in 11th place in the Serie A table, nine points adrift of Inter Milan in fifth.

However, they have won only one of their last six league games and lost the remaining five, and that has seen them slip off the pace.

Meggiorini told the club's official website, www.torinofc.it: "We are playing good football - even when we have lost, we have never given up on the field.

"The week has gone well and we have trained hard, as always. The environment is very good and I feel the confidence of everybody.

"Sunday will be a tough game, and we will have to have the right approach and play our game.

"We have had one more day than them to prepare, but definitely Cagliari will be fierce here and we will have to be careful."

Torino's only recent league win came last Saturday when they beat struggling Livorno 3-1 at the Stadio Olimpico with Ciro Immobile plundering a hat-trick.

But they lost the games either side of it - at home to Napoli and on Tuesday night, away to Roma - only to injury-time goals.

Goals have been in relatively short supply and Meggiorini himself is yet to score in 26 appearances to date this season.

However, he is confident that will change sooner rather than later.

Meggiorini said: "There has also been a bit of bad luck, but I won't give up because sooner or later, the wind shifts. It can't always go well."

Cagliari headed into the weekend four places and seven points worse off than their hosts, but eight points clear of the drop zone.

They beat Verona on Wednesday night courtesy of Brazilian striker Nene's strike, but that was just their second victory in eight attempts.

However, they did claim all three points from their home clash with Torino with first-half goals from Daniele Conti and Immobile clinching a 2-1 win in November.
