Bologna vs Cagliari preview - Skipper Perez targets huge win

Captain Diego Perez is confident Bologna can steer themselves away from the Serie A drop zone and believes beating Cagliari this weekend would go a long way to achieving that aim.

Bologna currently occupy the final relegation spot in the Italian top-flight, although they are just a point behind 17th-placed Livorno with 10 games remaining.

While their standing may not be an immediate area of concern to head coach Davide Ballardini, they have picked up just two points in their last five league matches since a victory at Torino on February 9.

The Rossoblu can end their winless streak on Sunday against a Cagliari side who are still battling to secure their future in the league for next season and have not won away from home all season.

"The race to salvation is hard but I am very confident we can do it," Perez told the club's official website. "It is a race between six teams, I do not want to do the calculations, the first thing to do is beat Cagliari."

"We cannot make mistakes, so we can not afford any kind of decline, neither mental nor physical.

"In the past, this team have always pulled out a little more when they are in moments of great difficulty, and I hope that on Sunday this aspect emerges again."

Cagliari have collected just seven points from 13 matches on their travels in this campaign and are only six points clear of Bologna.

Coach Diego Lopez must make do without suspended duo Daniele Conti and Francesco Pisano.

Captain Conti was sent off in the 2-0 home defeat to Lazio for leading with his elbow in an aerial challenge with Lucas Biglia and was given a three-match ban, while Pisano collected a booking in that match and will only miss the Bologna clash.

The only other absentee is on-loan Flamengo midfielder Adryan, who is injured.
