Genoa vs Juventus preview - Gasperini promises attacking intent

Genoa head coach Gian Piero Gasperini is buzzing ahead of Sunday night's Serie A meeting with Juventus and has promised to take the game to the champions-elect.

While the Rossoblu have failed to beat Juve at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris - or at all - since April 2009, games between two of Italy's oldest clubs are usually exciting encounters which yield plenty of goals.

And neither side has been shy in front of goal this season, with Juve brushing aside all comers while Genoa continue to enjoy the fruits of subscribing to Gasperini's attacking philosophy.

Memories of a woeful start to the campaign under Fabio Liverani are fading fast as the Marassi outfit climb steadily towards the race for Europe having scored in 15 of their last 18 games.

So Juve - tired and lacking personnel following their midweek Europa League clash with Fiorentina - are there for the taking, according to Gasperini.

He told reporters: "How much am I looking forward to it on a scale of one to 100? I can only answer... 110!

"Juventus are the best team in the league but we want to put on a good performance against them, giving our all.

"We've always played good games against Juve at the Marassi and we'll try again tomorrow."

Genoa might have been pushing for a place in the top seven this weekend had they not slumped to defeat at Chievo last time out.

"We were sorry we lost in Verona, despite our good performance, so now we want to return to the pitch full of determination," Gasperini added.

"We will give our very best until the end of the season so we can collect as many points as possible."

Alessandro Gamberini, Antonio Donnarumma, Juraj Kucka, Sime Vrsaljko and Luca Antonini are all on the Marassi treatment table as midfielder Isaac Cofie serves a one-match suspension.

Juve are missing strikers Carlos Tevez and Mirko Vucinic, and midfielders Simone Pepe and Claudio Marchisio, through injury, while forward Sebastian Giovinco is struggling for fitness and will not travel.

Playmaker Andrea Pirlo should return from a one-match suspension.

Victory in Genoa would propel Juve 17 points clear of nearest title rivals Roma, who host Udinese on Monday night.
