CONCACAF Player of the Week: Nick Rimando
Posted Thursday, March 13, 2014 by YAHOO Sport
The LA Galaxy attack was strong Saturday night, but Nick Rimando was stronger. He got a bit of help from the post on one occasion, but no assistance was necessary for the majority of the night.
The highlight of the night was clearly his penalty save off Robbie Keane in the dying minutes of the match, with Real Salt Lake clinging to a 1-0 lead. He made the game's biggest play and helped new manager Jeff Cassar to a debut victory.
It wasn't only that moment that earned Rimando this week's plaudits, though the drama didn't hurt anything. He faced 27 total shots, being forced into 10 total saves, as the Galaxy continued to bear down on his goal. In the end he kept a clean sheet to earn the CONCACAF Player of the Week honors.
