Louis Van Gaal to give Tottenham a lift

LOUIS VAN GAAL yesterday dropped the biggest hint yet he is going to be Spurs’ next manager.

It came as the White Hart Lane side were beaten 1-0 at Norwich to leave them trailing in the chase for a Champions League slot.

They are now six points behind fourth-placed Liverpool with a vastly-inferior goal difference and the Europa League their only chance of silverware this season.

Current boss Tim Sherwood said: “We knew Liverpool had won so it’s a setback.

“But we can’t rely on other people losing games if you want to get into the champions League. We have to do it ourselves.”

Chairman Daniel Levy has flown over twice to see the current Holland coach in his homeland, once at his luxury home in Noordwijk on the day of the north Londoners’ 3-2 win at Southampton in December.

And yesterday, ex-Barcelona boss van Gaal admitted he was ready for a fresh challenge.

He will take his national team to the World Cup in Brazil this summer, then look to get back into club management.

“I will definitely not be in charge for the European campaign,” he said at the Euro 2016 draw in Nice.

“Normally I go with my pension, go to live in Portugal, but maybe there will come a new challenge.

“I have said before that a challenge should be a club in the Premier League. That’s a challenge.

“Maybe Tottenham are coming, but first we have to go to Brazil.”

The 62-year-old’s hint will come as a blow to Sherwood, who has a contract with Spurs for this season and next but has admitted he does know for sure if he will be in charge after the end of the current campaign.
