Garry Monk must pass three tests if he is going to land the Swansea job

GARRY MONK insists ‘no news is good news’ right now in his bid to land the Swansea job permanently.

SWAN DRIVE: Interim boss Garry Monk
However, the Liberty Stadium interim player-coach, appointed after Michael Laudrup’s recent sudden sacking, would love that to change over the next seven days – amid the most testing of triple headers.
First up today in the FA Cup, Monk’s men face ex-Swansea boss Roberto Martinez and an Everton outfit sitting sixth in the top flight.
Then this Thursday, they host Rafa Benitez’s Serie A giants Napoli in the Europa League before a daunting league trip to Brendan Rodgers’ red-hot Liverpool next Sunday.
Little wonder that Monk, should he survive and thrive against the three Rs, reckons he may have done enough to stay at the helm for the rest of the season at least.
Monk, who took four points from his first two games in charge, said: “If I get a triple A rating from that lot I might even call the chairman myself.
“Since getting the job against Cardiff last Saturday, I’ve heard nothing about my future.
“There has been no chat with the chairman. But to be fair, we have been so busy there has not been any time to sit down and talk and plan any of the other stuff.
“The games are coming too thick and fast.
“I am just getting on with it until I am told not to.

HEARD NOTHING: Garry Monk says he hasn't heard anything about his future just yet
“In that respect, no news is definitely good news for now.
“At least I haven’t been given the hook driving into work!”
Beating rivals Cardiff 3-0 and grabbing a midweek draw at Stoke will only have enhanced Monk’s long-term job prospects with the Welsh club.
And the imminent return of last season’s top scorer Michu, after the best part of three months out with ankle trouble, should also be a huge boost.
Certainly, Monk is relishing using the Spanish striker alongside fast-improving hitman Wilfried Bony in the coming weeks.
Monk, 34, said: “They might not admit it, but inside, every striker is desperate to outscore his partner.
“That is the way they are made.
“But that does not mean they cannot work as a team and drive each other on.
“Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge at Liverpool are the perfect example of that.”
