Nathan Austin fired East Fife to a 1-0 victory over fellow Scottish League One strugglers Arbroath.

The striker's first-half effort proved enough to seal all three points following back-to-back defeats while Arbroath are now winless in 10 matches.

Austin's goal arrived in the 27th minute as he fired home left-footed having received a pass from Stephen Hughes.

Alan Cook curled wide for Arbroath shortly after half-time as the visitors looked for a route back into the game before later sending a free-kick over the crossbar.

Graham Bayne then headed off target in the latter stages while Paul Sheerin fired wide as East Fife, who saw Liam Buchanan head over in injury time, held on to collect a much-needed victory.
