Brechin City 0 : 1 Stenhousemuir - Smith the hero in Warriors win

Posted Sunday, December 29, 2013 by PA

Chris Smith saved a second-half penalty as Stenhousemuir held on for a 1-0 victory at Brechin.

The hosts started the game on the front foot and carved out the best chances in the opening exchanges, with Andrew Jackson firing the best of those against the post.

City continued to do most of the running but Stenhousemuir hit the front in the 38th minute when Bryan Hodge found the bottom corner with a left-footed strike.

Brechin had a golden opportunity to equalise just after the hour mark but Smith saved Alan Trouten's spot-kick high to his right to give the Warrirors all three points and their first clean sheet in 15 league games.
