HARRISON, N.J. (AP) -- The New York Red Bulls have acquired midfielder Bobby Convey from Toronto FC for two draft picks.

The Red Bulls announced the trade Friday, saying they got the former U.S. national team player and Toronto second-round pick in the upcoming MLS SuperDraft for New York's first-round pick in 2014 and a third-round choice in 2016.

Convey signed a new contract after the trade.

A three-time MLS All Star, Convey had a goal and four assists in 21 games with Toronto. The 30-year-old started his professional career in 2000 with D.C. United and later played in England with Reading FC, helping the club earn promotion to the English Premiership after the 2005-06 season.

Convey earned 46 national appearances and played in the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany.
