Catania vs AC Milan preview - Allegri turns focus to league

Massimiliano Allegri's future has been on the mind of every AC Milan fan but it is the club's current Serie A form that is the concern of the Rossonero coach heading into Sunday's match at Catania.

Milan have endured a torrid spell in Italy to fall 20 points adrift of league leaders Juventus but pressure was eased on Allegri when they beat Celtic 3-0 in Scotland on Tuesday.

That result halted a seven-match winless run for Milan, who now need just a point from their final Group H game at home to Ajax to secure a spot in the next round of the Champions League.

In the meantime, the focus is on getting their domestic campaign back on track.

"My players put in a good performance and took an important result in Glasgow," Allegri said. "It wasn't easy to win this game.

"I don't believe in games marking a turning point although to win a game always gives you a boost in confidence.

"Now we have to think of getting points in Serie A."

Milan go into the game in Sicily in 13th place and looking to collect their first league win since beating Udinese 1-0 on October 19.

The Rossoneri will have to overcome the absence of defender Ignazio Abate and striker Robinho, who got hurt in midweek and have been ruled out through injuries.

Moreover, defender Cristian Zapata must serve a one-match ban.

Rivals Catania are also in desperate need of points. The Sicilian outfit fell 4-1 at Torino last Sunday to concede their third defeat in four games.

The outcome saw Luigi De Canio's side fall to the foot of the standings, two points adrift of safety.

Catania have been staying in their sporting village in Torre Del Grifo this week in order to prepare in the best possible way for Sunday's game.

The hosts will be without midfielders Sergio Almiron, Mariano Izco as well as strikers Gonzalo Bergessio and Kingsley Boateng, all out injured.

Former AC Milan striker Maxi Lopez will lead Catania's attack.
