ROY HODGSON has urged England to show their bottle and go toe to toe with Germany.
ROAR OF ENCOURAGEMENT: Roy Hodgson says his England players can mix it with the best
The Three Lions clash with their old rivals at Wembley tomorrow night looking to bounce back from last week’s shock 2-0 defeat to Chile.
Hodgson admits the Germans will be tough nuts to crack – but he wants his Three Lions to prove they can mix it with the best.
“I think you have to say they are a team that will threaten at the World Cup,” said Hodgson.
“All the praise that has been heaped on them, I think, is very deserved.
“I am pretty sure that the 11 who go out on Tuesday night will be anxious that they put any comparisons to bed, and that they will show they are every bit as good (as Germany) and that is what I believe they will be.
THE GERMANS ARE COMING: Germany visit Wembley this Tuesday
“They are a very good team. Since 2006 and the World Cup they have spent eight years very fruitfully to put this team together. I am sure they will be coming here with enormous confi dence in themselves.
“They are going to ask massive questions of us and I can only hope that we have brushed ourselves down from the Chile defeat and we are readyto take them on.”
Hodgson will hand a recall to goalkeeper Joe Hart who was taken out of the firing line on Friday, to allow understudy Fraser Forster to gain some vital international experience.
Hart has found himself out of favour at Manchester City for the first time in his career after a string of costly errors this season. But Hodgson has backed his No.1 to come good.
RECALL: Joe Hart is set to start against Germany
“Yes, he is in the right frame of mind,” he said. “I am more than happy that Joe is ready. He will be anxious to seize his chance and anxious to show everyone that he is still a very good goalkeeper.
“In the training sessions he does with me he has been fine and I know (goalkeeping coach) Dave Watson has been happy with him. He knows it’s his chance.”
Fit-again Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge is also set to start against a weakened German team.
Hodgson reckons the progress Germany have made in recent years is the benchmark for his own side.
“We are working towards improving our game and I think Germanyare one of the teams you look at.
“A lot of things they do are very praiseworthy and we have players who are capable of doing it. Hopefully we will be working on our game to reach that standard.
