However, this Barcelona is not as pleasing to the eye as the old side. Pep Guardiola's era as Barça boss, in which the team was considered the best side on the planet and won practically everything has come to an end.

Barcelona's run of form is simply sensational. The team is currently top of La Liga and has only drawn once in eleven games; Barça beat Atletico de Madrid to take the Supercopa de España; and comfortably leads its group in the Champions League after two victories and a draw at the San Siro.
However, this Barcelona is not as pleasing to the eye as the old side. Pep Guardiola's era as Barça boss, in which the team was considered the best side on the planet and won practically everything has come to an end. Things have changed now and the team seems ready for the challenge, which can be seen by looking at its record, even though the style of play is not as spectacular.
Martino comes from the land of Argentina, where the most important thing is winning. From the moment he arrived, the coach has altered things. He has strived to regain forgotten qualities, whilst implementing his own vision of play on the team.
The Argentine manager has done what was expected of him, as his football values could be clearly seen from his time in charge of Paraguay and Newell's Old Boys. 'El Tata' sees Barcelona as a more solid side and he has worked extremely hard to change things, but there is still a long way to go. In order to achieve his goals he has given great importance to the concept of defence and has used a more traditional approach, as opposed to possession-based play.
