Stranraer 1 : 0 Stenhousemuir - Aitken spot-kick enough for Blues
Posted Sunday, October 20, 2013 by PA
Chris Aitken scored the only goal of the game from the penalty spot as Stranraer defeated second-placed Stenhousemuir 1-0.
Visiting goalkeeper Chris Smith had to be alert to keep out Jamie Longworth's right-footed effort as Stranraer pressed for an early goal.
Sean Higgins went close to giving Stenhousemuir the lead just after the half-hour mark when his shot was parried by Stranraer stopper David Mitchell.
Mitchell's save proved crucial as the hosts went straight down the other end and earned a penalty. Ross Smith brought down Martin Grehan and Aitken fired his spot-kick into the top-right corner of the goal.
Stenhousemuir pressed for an equaliser but could find no way past Mitchell and Stranraer hung on for a third successive win.
