Low eyes two-year Germany extension

Germany coach Joachim Low has revealed he is in talks over a new two-year contract extension.

The tactician's current contract with the DFB will expire after the World Cup next year, but he says they are working on extending the partnership until 2016.

"Both sides are interested in extending the contract until 2016," the 53-year-old Low said at a press conference. "There will certainly be a change should we get eliminated from the group stages at the World Cup without a point or a victory.

"However, a successful performance is not solely tied to results. It's also important how we played and how good the relationship with the team is."

Germany is currently preparing for its last qualifier against Sweden on Tuesday, but the coach refused to regard the absence of superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic as advantageous for his team.

"At the moment, with this constellation, I don't care whether Ibrahimovic will play or not," Low said. "Apart from the last match in Berlin [which ended 4-4], we always had him under control.

"In any case, we will not underestimate Sweden. Not only during the 4-4 they were an unpleasant opponent, but they were present at all the major tournaments recently and have a very experienced team."
