Levski Sofia manager quits a day after fans strip him at his first press conference

On Tuesday, Levski Sofia unveiled new manager Ivaylo Petev in a press conference crashed by angry ultras who took the shirt off his back. It was a surreal incident that ended with Petev walking out of the room shirtless, but after having a night to sleep on it, he's decided to do the sensible thing and quit.

From PA Sport:

"I thought over things a lot, listened to the opinions of my family, which is important," Petev said in an interview with Bulgarian broadcaster TV7.

"I'm not a criminal, I'm not a thief, but yesterday I felt exactly like that. What did I do to deserve this?"

The Levski ultras took the bizarre action simply because they thought he was secretly a fan of their rivals, CSKA Sofia. Levski will play CSKA on October 19. If Petev wasn't rooting for CSKA before, he probably will be now.

Meanwhile, fans looking to get rid of unwanted managers have a new blueprint to get what they want. Instead of making signs and booing like Chelsea fans did with interim manager Rafa Benitez last season, just show up at a press conference and take his shirt. Then again, if Chelsea fans had done that to Benitez, the resulting vision would've been far worse than anything he could've done to the club.
