The 29-year-old has not featured for his country for three years but the Germany boss is planning to call him up amid an injury crisis among his main forwards
Germany coach Joachim Low says he is planning to speak to Bayer Leverkusen star Stefan Kiessling over a possible international recall.
The 29-year-old has not featured for his country since 2010, despite top-scoring in the Bundesliga last season and making a flying start to the current campaign.
The former Nurnberg striker had previously ruled himself out of contention for the Nationalelf, claiming he would not work with Low.
"Stefan Kiessling is a striker who has put in very good performances in the Bundesliga over the years," Low is quoted as saying by Bild.
"I will have a conversation with him and discuss a few things internally. I will never write him off because he has very good qualities."
With Miroslav Klose and Mario Gomez both injured for October's World Cup qualifiers against the Republic of Ireland and Sweden, Low also hinted at a first call-up for Hoffenheim's Kevin Volland.
"Klose and Gomez are the best options," he continued. "[Borussia Monchengladbach's Max] Kruse and Volland have also got themselves in the foreground."
Germany face Ireland in Cologne on October 11 before travelling to Solna for the clash with Sweden four days later.
