Carlo Ancelotti has voiced his discontent with Real Madrid's showing in his side's narrow 2-1 win over Elche in La Liga on Wednesday evening.

A controversial stoppage-time penalty dispatched by Cristiano Ronaldo saw Madrid eventually bag the full three points, but Ancelotti warned his side that if it played at the same level on Saturday it will have no chance of beating cross-town rival Atletico Madrid.

"I am not happy," the Madrid coach said at a press conference. "We need to play differently. We suffered a lot during the match, particularly during the closing minutes of the match. Playing the way we did today, we are not going to win the derby."

"We need to play better, with more intensity and more personality. We didn't have control of the game in the second half. The only important thing is that we won but that's not enough. We need to improve."

Ancelotti also briefly discussed the referee's decision to award the match-winning penalty and claimed that Pepe, who won the spot kick, stressed the official made the right call.

"It is difficult to talk about the penalty, because you can't see properly when you are on the bench.

"I talked to Pepe and he told me that it was a clear penalty."

Madrid currently sits third in La Liga trailing leader Barcelona and second-placed Atletico by two points.
