Gotze looking forward to pending Lewandowski arrival

Bayern Munich midfielder Mario Gotze has revealed his excitement about potentially being reunited with striker Robert Lewandowski at the Allianz Arena.

The Bavarians failed to lure the 25-year-old Poland international away from Borussia Dortmund this summer, but on Tuesday the forward signaled his intent to sign a deal with the treble winner in January with an eye to leave BVB when his contract ends at the end of this season.

Although Lewandowski has since backtracked somewhat on his comments, Gotze is looking forward to the prospect of linking up with his former teammate once again under Pep Guardiola.

"If Lewandowski should come to us, I would be pleased," Gotze told Bild. "Robbie and I had a very good understanding at BVB. He is an exceptional striker!"

The Germany international also praised Dortmund star Henrikh Mkhitaryan, who was signed as his successor by Jurgen Klopp this summer when Gotze left for 37 million euros, and he suggested he will be an asset for the club in Europe especially this season.

"I think he's doing well," Gotze said. "You can see that he can play. I have noticed he will be positive in the Champions League for Dortmund [in particular]."
