Totti hits out at Juventus over Del Piero treatment

Francesco Totti took a swipe at Juventus over their treatment of Alessandro Del Piero after penning a new contract with Roma.

On Friday, the 36-year-old attacker committed himself to the Giallorossi for a further two seasons, meaning that he is almost certain to retire at the club with whom he has become synonymous.

Totti admitted, though, that he remains disappointed that Del Piero, who moved to Sydney FC last summer after being deemed surplus to requirements by Juventus, was unable to do likewise in Turin.

"It was a personal choice to go play in Australia but he was a symbol of Juventus," the World Cup winner told reporters.

"He was not treated like I have been treated with Roma and I'm so sorry about that but, as far as I'm concerned, I am overjoyed that I have remained in a single shirt."

Totti also revealed that he is disappointed that Inter president Massimo Moratti is on the verge of selling the club to Indonesian businessman Erick Thohir.

"I'm sorry that Inter is passing into the hands of another person but in football there are dark times, especially now," the forward mused. "Therefore, they [Inter] have sought to turn the page.

"However, in Italian football Moratti will always remain a real person, loyal and respected by all, even by non-Interisti."

Totti, who made 58 appearances for Italy, has been at Roma since 1992 and is the club's record goalscorer and most capped player.
