Inter hit with San Siro racism sanction

The Nerazzurri have been ordered to close the Curva Nord section of the ground against Fiorentina on September 26 as a result of offensive chants during the 1-1 draw with Juventus

Inter have been told to close San Siro's north end for one game after alleged racist chanting during their Serie A clash against Juventus.

Bianconeri players are reported to have been verbally abused in Saturday's 1-1 draw at San Siro, in which Antonio Conte's side came from behind to win a point.

A statement from Serie A on Tuesday confirmed that Inter will be forced to shut the Curva Nord section of the stadium for the visit of Fiorentina on September 26.

The organisation stated that "chants and noises of a racist nature were heard during both halves of the game" and that laser pens were used during the match.

The club have also been fined €15,000 (£12,500) as part of the punishment.

Inter are the latest in a string of Serie A clubs this year to be hit with sanctions as a result of crowd trouble.

Lazio were penalised over supporter actions during the Supercoppa Italiana against Juventus, while Roma were punished for racist chants directed at AC Milan players towards the end of the 2012-13 campaign.
