Hodgson: Inexperienced England not used to pressure

A point in Kiev keeps the Three Lions at the top of Group H with two qualification fixtures remaining against Montenegro and Poland at Wembley

England manager Roy Hodgson believes his squad's lack of experience makes the goalless draw against Ukraine in Kiev a satisfying result.

The point keeps England at the top of Group H, with two home qualification matches against Montenegro and Poland remaining.

England were restricted to just two chances on target against Mykhaylo Fomenko's men, who also had few clear-cut opportunities during the fixture.

"In the first half, we had clear control of the game and we could have won it at the end as well," Hodgson told ITV.

"A lot of players have come into the squad and aren't normally used to this level of pressure. So I think we've got to be more than satisfied with the result against Moldova and here.

"If we had someone like a [Wayne] Rooney or a [Daniel] Sturridge, we might have even got the goal we needed.

"I don't think we were that adventurous but it was for them to do that not us.

"I thought in the first half in particular there were quite a few interesting situations in the final third.

"Had we thrown caution to the wind and ended with a 1-0 defeat, I don't think we would have got any thanks for that."
