Manchester United ready to fight Arsenal for Aston Villa star Christian Benteke

MANCHESTER UNITED are poised to battle Arsenal to sign hitman Christian Benteke in January.

The Gunners made a bid to sign the Belgium striker, 22, on transfer deadline day.
Aston Villa turned down the advance.
But now David Moyes could be set to make his own offer to take him to Old Trafford.

The United boss watched Benteke in action for his country against Scotland on Friday night.
There he linked up with Moyes' £27.5m signing Marouane Fellaini in a 2-0 victory.
Benteke expressed his desire to leave Villa Park at the end of the season but he completed a spectacular u-turn and signed a new deal with the club.

Villa boss Paul Lambert won't want to sell his prized asset, who scored 19 goals in his first campaign in the Premier League.
However, he will be wary that the big guns could move to try and sign the former Genk man.
Arsenal signed £42.4m man Mesut Ozil before the transfer window shut but are still on the lookout for a frontman.
