Low confirms Germany contract talks

Joachim Low has confirmed that contract extension negotiations with Germany's football association (DFB) are under way.

Reports arose on Friday following the Mannschaft's 3-0 triumph over Austria on Friday that the former assistant to Jurgen Klinsmann will be extending his stay in the national set-up until at least Euro 2016.

"I have had no calls to the DFB, but I have consulted with DFB general secretary Helmut Sandrock and we have talked over two to three basic information that needs determined," Low, who is not expected to renew until after World Cup 2014 should Germany qualify as expected, told Kicker.

Germany and Bayern Munich skipper Philipp Lahm seemed supportive of Low's renewal but insisted that the players are focused on reaching the finals in Brazil next summer - which could happen on Tuesday if they beat Faroe Islands and Sweden fail to win away to Kazakhstan.

"The team works very well with the coach and his training staff," the veteran full-back said. "We are concentrating on the World Cup though - contracts are not of interest to the team."

Low has been head coach of Germany since July 13 2006 and has guided the European nation to three consecutive semi-final appearances in major international tournaments.
