Donovan: We've got to do better

U.S. men's national team star Landon Donovan has called for an improvement against Mexico following his side's 3-1 loss to Costa Rica.

The Ticos leapfrogged the Yanks to first place in the World Cup qualifying standings, and although the U.S. is still on track to qualify comfortably, the USA's all-time leading scorer was not impressed with the performance.

"We were a little careless early in the game," said Donovan, playing in his first qualifier since last autumn. "We've got to do better, clearly.

"Qualifying is all about ups and downs. It's never going to be easy. It never is. Every time is hard. So we've got to get ourselves recovered physically, recovered mentally, and we have to beat Mexico now on Tuesday."
