US Sassuolo Calcio vs Livorno preview - Di Francesco calls for more

Sassuolo and Livorno were both handed an early lesson in how hard adjusting to life in Serie A can be last weekend - but one of the promoted clubs is guaranteed a first point at the Stadio del Tricolore.

Serie B champions Sassuolo suffered a 2-0 defeat at Torino while play-off winners Livorno succumbed to a loss by the same scoreline at home to top-flight mainstays Roma.

While the Tuscans have experienced life at the top table as recently as 2010, the new campaign is a first ever at this level for Sassuolo, who are using Reggio-Emilia's Tricolore facility rather than the tiny Stadio Ennio Ricci.

There were six goals in two games between the clubs in second-tier meetings last year and Sassuolo coach Eusebio Di Francesco is demanding his players turn the heat back up in the final third on Sunday.

He told the Corriere dello Sport: "We started well and until Torino scored we were dominating out on the pitch, giving precious little space away. They did really well to take their chances, us less so.

"We need to learn how to be more clinical because in Serie A you will get punished for the slightest error."

Striker Domenico Berardi is suspended at the Tricolore while Australian midfielder Carl Valeri misses out through injury. On-loan Inter Milan winger Ezequiel Schelotto should make his debut, though.

For the opposition, there could be first starts in Amaranto for striker Innocent Emeghara and defender Marco Biagianti, who have been signed from Siena and Catania respectively.

Livorno boss Davide Nicola is eager to add more new faces to his squad before Monday's transfer deadline, saying: "The club know what we need and I've already spoken to the president and the director of sport. I'm confident.

Referring to the Roma defeat, he added: "We have to improve, especially in terms of our attitude.

"We have learned early on that there's a huge leap in quality when you reach this league, even if I did see a good Livorno display for about an hour."
