Newcastle boss Alan Pardew insists Arsenal are yet to return with an improved offer for Yohan Cabaye after having their "derisory" £10million opening bid rejected.

No new Arsenal bid for Cabaye, says Pardew

Speculation has continued to mount over Cabaye's Magpies future with the Gunners reportedly preparing a new offer and Paris St Germain also linked with a big-money move.

Pardew was furious at the timing of the Gunners' opening bid for Cabaye, which came a matter of hours before his side kicked off their season with a 4-0 mauling at Manchester City.

Cabaye sat out the Etihad Stadium rout due to the speculation, and Pardew has not decided whether he will allow him to return for Saturday's St James' Park clash with West Ham.

Pardew said: "I think the situation with Yohan is an ongoing situation and we will take each day as it comes.

"There's been one bid and I've turned that down, and that's really all I'm going to say on that."

Pardew spent part of this week in the south of France discussing potential targets with club owner Mike Ashley but admitted there were no imminent additions to his lone summer signing Loic Remy.

Pardew added: "I was there to get together with the owner and get ourselves a game-plan going towards the final week of the window, and that's what we did."
