"I arrive tomorrow; I'll go and sleep at Valdebebas". That was the message sent from Carlo Ancelotti to Real Madrid to warn that he would be arriving on the 14th July as the Italian coach eschewed a luxury hotel, choosing instead to spend his first nights in the Spanish capital at the club's training headquarters.
The club was busy putting the final touches to the new facility at the time but that did not deter Ancelloti who did not think twice about moving into a brand new ninety square metres room with his partner instead of a hotel in the centre of the city.
For Carlo it was important to have his new 'office'- the training pitch – just 150 metres away. That is all that separates his door from the first team's training field. In addition it helps that his suite comes with all mod cons. It is a luxury apartment designed by Jose Mourinho who never got the chance, much to his chagrin, to use it.
They say that when the Portuguese coach decided to leave the club he was very sorry that he did not get the opportunity to experience his new apartment in the Valdebebas facility. The place is ideal for two people, it has a big front room with an office attached to it, computer, screen, video and all the technology needed to watch matches and carry out the tactical work required for the team, all within one space.
The first thing Ancelotti did on his arrival at Valdebebas was put his name on the door of his room. His suite is the best within the first team's residence and at 90 metres double the size of the players’ rooms.
