Lyon hope to keep Newcastle target Gomis

Lyon coach Remi Garde is hopeful that Newcastle target Bafetimbi Gomis will sign a new deal with the club.

The Magpies were keen on bringing the 28-year-old to St James' Park and terms were believed to have been agreed between the two clubs earlier this month.
However, the deal failed to materialise and reports suggested Newcastle had pulled out of the deal altogether.
Boss Garde has since echoed earlier comments from chairman Jean-Michel Aulas in declaring his desire to keep Gomis at the Stade de Gerland.
He has confirmed a contract offer is on the table and is hopeful of tying the France international striker down to a new deal.
"He has had a contract extension proposition in his hands for months," he told L'Equipe.
"I have no personal problem with Bafe. I am waiting for an outcome. We have to find a solution that could satisfy three parties.
"The most important thing is to have opened doors as the chairman did."
