I want 25% of Fergie’s success - New Man Utd boss Moyes admits he can't rival legend

DAY AT THE OPERA ... Moyes in Sydney with Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick and Ryan Giggs
DAVID MOYES insists he would be happy to win a quarter of Alex Ferguson’s silverware by the time he leaves Old Trafford.
Fergie lifted an amazing 38 trophies in 26 years as Manchester United manager.
And new boss Moyes confessed: “It’s my first season as manager and I’m following probably the finest football manager that’s ever lived.
“If I can even win a quarter of what he won, then I’ll have done very well.
“So the first thing I’ve got to do is settle in to the job, get to know everybody and find my way around.
“I’m really fortunate that everybody who’s working at the club is making that easy for me.
“The players, especially, have been terrific in what they’re doing and we’ll be adding one or two more players who’ve come in to join us, who have may be been away with international teams over the summer time in the next month or so.”
Striker Robin van Persie is due to join up with the United squad in Sydney ahead of Saturday’s pre-season friendly against an A-League All Star side.
United lost the first match of their Far East tour 1-0 to the Singha All Star XI in Bangkok on Saturday.
They are also due to play two games in Japan and one in Hong Kong before heading for home.
Moyes will hope to have some new signings in the bag by then — although Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcantara will NOT be one of them.
Bayern Munich confirmed yesterday the Spaniard, 22, will join up with his former Nou Camp boss Pep Guardiola after the clubs agreed a £22million fee.
Ryan Giggs, 39, admits United’s stars are getting used to life under their new boss.
The Welshman, who is now filling a dual role as player-coach, said: “It’s obviously strange because I’ve only had one manager for 20-odd years.
“But we move on and it’s like any other pre-season; you’ve got to work hard, knuckle down and prepare as best you can for the first game of the season against Swansea.
“So it’s not been that different really.”
Giggs is about to kick off his 23rd season as a United player.
He added: “Crazy, aren’t I? But I’m enjoying it just as much as I did 20 years ago.
“The thing about Manchester United is you have to do it all over again. And that philosophy will remain the same even though there is now a new man at the helm.
“This is the start of the journey this season and I hope to be lifting a trophy again at the end of it.”
