New Kop deal for Stevie G

STEVEN GERRARD is on the brink of the new deal that should see him finish his career at Anfield.

Talks have been going on all summer and the Liverpool skipper is close to signing.

Gerrard, 33, has just one more season on his current deal — although there was never a doubt he would be staying put.

A new contract, which will run until 2015, was first discussed with boss Brendan Rodgers at Christmas.

But Gerrard was happy to wait until the season finished before talking in earnest.

The new agreement is expected to be similar to the £140,000-a-week contract he penned in January 2012.

Midfielder Gerrard missed the final three matches of last season after shoulder surgery.

He did not play in Saturday’s 4-0 friendly win at Preston but will be on the pre-season tour of the Far East and fit for his testimonial on August 3.
