'The future is bright blue' - Buck hails Chelsea's transformation under Abramovich

Chelsea chairman Bruce Buck feels Roman Abramovich will continue to lead the club into a "bright blue" future, as the west London outfit celebrate 10 years under the Russian's ownership.

Abramovich purchased the Blues in 2003 and his lavish outlays in the transfer market have led to the most successful chapter in the club's history, with Chelsea winning 13 trophies including three Premier League titles and one Champions League triumph.

Critics initially suggested Abramovich would tire of his 'project', but Buck believes the Russian's desire cannot be questioned having convinced Jose Mourinho to return to the club and feels more trophies are on the horizon.

"Will Roman Abramovich become bored, having won all the major trophies? My answer is no," Buck wrote in The Times.

"Can Jose Mourinho bring more success to the club? My answer is yes. Can the club bring a significant number of our academy players, particularly English players, into first-team roles? Will the club find new and more creative ways to expand the club’s charitable endeavors and be an even bigger force for good? Yes on both counts.

"And don’t forget, significant investment has already been made and the club now look optimistically at long-term financial stability under the new Financial Fair Play rules.

"Roman Abramovich is certainly a man of great ambition, and as fervent a Chelsea fan as any you will meet in the pubs around Fulham Broadway before a match."

Buck believes Abramovich will back Mourinho in the transfer market to build another side capable of challenging for the title following disappointing finishes in recent seasons, with Andre Schurrle arriving for 18 million pounds last week.

"He clearly wants to build an institution that will provide everlasting joy and pride to Chelsea fans, whose unstinting support has played a huge part in the last decade’s success," Buck explained. "Time will tell what is possible. But if history is any indication of the future, the future is bright blue."
