Effenberg backs Gomez-Fiorentina move

Former Bayern Munich player Steffan Effenberg believes Mario Gomez should prove a useful addition to the Fiorentina squad.
After the arrival of Mario Mandzukic last summer, Gomez has seen his time on the pitch dwindle and is expected to continue playing a bit part role under new manager Pep Guardiola.
Fiorentina star striker Stefan Jovetic has been linked with a move away this year and Effenberg told Itasportpress.it that Gomez would prove an ideal replacement for the Montenegrin.
"He would work well at Fiorentina," he stated.
"Besides his quality in the air he does a lot of work for his team-mates. He could score even more than 15 goals in Italy."
The former German international, who left Bayern for the Viola in 1992, was confident that the lack of playing time Gomez saw last season would not impact his performance in the new campaign.
"He has played less this season than in other campaigns but if Fiorentina buy him then it will be a great move," Effenberg said.
