San Jose Earthquakes 3-2 LA Galaxy: Gordon-led Goonies win Cali Clasico late

Over 50,000 fans filled Standford Stadium as the San Jose Earthquakes came back in stoppage time to grab a 3-2 win over the LA Galaxy in the California Clasico.

A well-worked passing move opened the scoring for LA in the 20th minute. Keane passed forward from midfield to Gyasi Zardes just short of the penalty area. Zardes dropped deeper and played a pass wide to Landon Donovan, who cut inside and chipped a cross to the center of the penalty box for Keane to one-time a ball to Marcelo Sarvas, who was running onto the penalty spot. Sarvas hit his shot first-time and into the net.

Keane and Donovan were again involved in the buildup to LA's second in the 65th minute, with the Irishman sliding a pass across the goalmouth for Hector Jimenez to tap into an open net.

San Jose got one back with an instant reply from Alan Gordon, who headed in Shea Salinas' cross to carve open the LA defense.

San Jose's task became more difficult in the 77th minute. Victor Bernardez was shown a second yellow and sent off for a sliding tackle on Juninho, although subsequent replays showed the San Jose man had missed the Brazilian, who sold referee Armando Villarreal a dive.

Being down isn't a hindrance when there's drama to be had, however, and San Jose showed there was a bit of 2012's "Goonies" magic still left in the bag.

Shea Salinas grabbed an equalizer in the 92nd minute. A.J. DeLaGarza headed a San Jose long throw back at his keeper Carlo Cudicini, but the veteran wasn't ready and spilled the ball, allowing Salinas to tap in from point-blank range.

And then San Jose scored the winner. Salinas, at the byline, cut back for Sam Cronin, who chipped to the back post and found Gordon, who headed home for a signature 'Quakes win.
