Cassano on the brink of Parma switch

Parma president Tommaso Ghirardi expects the Ducale club to complete a deal for Inter Milan striker Antonio Cassano "by the weekend".
The former Roma, Real Madrid and AC Milan player could move to the Stadio Ennio Tardini as part of a swap deal for Algeria-born forward Ishak Belfodil, with Nerazzurri defender Matias Silvestre another possible makeweight.
Ghirardi, whose side finished 10th in Serie A last season, told La Repubblica Sport: "I'm optimistic that by the weekend we will have done a deal for Cassano.
"This is an important deal for Parma and we still haven't come to terms with the kind of name we're talking about signing.
"There's confidence from Cassano's people and in our communications with Inter.
"When we can announce the signing of Cassano we will know we have signed a champion and reinforced the team. Our ambitions are much higher than they have been in the past."
Cassano, 30, scored eight goals in all competitions for Inter during the 2012-13 campaign after switching allegiances at San Siro in August.
