LO-DOWN ... Gonzalo Higuain's father gave his inside views on Arsenal deal
GONZALO HIGUAIN’S Arsenal move is “at an advanced stage” — according to the Real Madrid striker’s dad.
The Gunners are ready to pay a club-record £22million for the Argentine, who is also wanted by Juventus.
Jorge Higuain played down suggestions that personal terms — reported to be £150,000 a week — have been agreed, but said a deal is close.
He insisted: “Nothing has yet been signed but I assure you the negotiations between the clubs are at an advanced stage.
“We won’t agree a contract before the clubs reach a transfer deal. I’m sure Arsenal made a big offer, and Juventus.”
Arsenal’s current transfer record is the £15m they paid Russia’s Zenit St Petersburg for Andrey Arshavin in 2009.
Higuain, 25, is renowned for his pace and strength and has been tipped to torment Premier League defences.
The hitman (left) joined Real from River Plate in Argentina in 2006 and has racked up 48 goals in 80 games in the last three seasons alone.
Boss Arsene Wenger wants Higuain to reignite his front line — in the role that made Thierry Henry a club legend — and fill the void left by Robin van Persie last season.
