Robert set to snub Man Utd and Chelsea

Prem big guns on a Lewser
WORLD AT HIS FEET ... Robert Lewandowski has the pick of Europe's finest after stunning season

ROBERT LEWANDOWSKI is set to marry this week — but he will not be going to Manchester United or Chelsea after his honeymoon.

The Poland superstar ties the knot with sweetheart Anna in Warsaw as the tug-of-war between his club Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich continues.

United and Chelsea are lurking in the wings. But Lewandowski, who spent his stag-do in Cannes with close pal Arsenal keeper Wojciech Szczesny, has told Dortmund he will move only to Bayern or stay put until the end of his contract next summer.

The Lewandowski saga is almost a test-case on ‘player-power’ given Dortmund’s hardline stance.

Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge told the hitman’s representatives this week that the European champions will wait for Lewandowski.

A £40million, five-year contract from Bayern will stay on the table until January, when Lewandowski can sign as an out-of- contract player for the 2014-15 season.

After losing Mario Goetze to Bayern for £31.5m, Dortmund will face a fans’ revolt if Lewandowski also joins their bitter rivals — something more important than a £25m fee.

In an unprecedented move, Dortmund offered to double Lewandowski’s £4m salary to £8m for the final year of his contract — to keep him geed up.

He turned it down flat, just like he did with a five-year contract offer worth £6.7m-a-year to stay at the Westfalenstadion.

Hours after losing last month’s Champions League final to Bayern at Wembley, Dortmund held a spectacular post-match bash in London’s Natural History Museum.

There, a top Dortmund official told me: “There is no chance Lewandowski will go to Bayern this summer. Maybe he can go to United. But Bayern? No way.”

Following Radamel Falcao’s £51m move to Monaco, Lewandowski is Europe’s most wanted hitman after his four-goal haul in the Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid. He can go for between £25m and £28m, while Edinson Cavani will cost Manchester City or Real Madrid the full £54m of his Napoli clause — you do the math.

SunSport told you on April 26 that United had to put together an £80m package to snatch Lewandowski — a £28m fee and £200k-a-week wages over five years to top Bayern’s offer.

Following developments this week, even that will not tempt the 24-year-old star to come to Old Trafford.

Jose Mourinho, another huge admirer, will also find it impossible to convince him to join Chelsea.

At the end of the transfer window, Lewandowski will not be where he wants and he may end up spending a season at Dortmund on £4m when he could be on double that.

Dortmund will lose out on a significant fee, and their main attacking threat may find it difficult to focus on the pitch — though in a World Cup year that might prove that bit easier.

Only a last-minute change of heart might sway the odds in favour of a move to the Premier League. But, as it currently stands, this is unlikely to happen.
