SUCCESSION PLANNING ... Roberto Martinez has bent the ear of Wigan supremo Dave Whelan
ROBERTO MARTINEZ has urged Wigan chairman Dave Whelan to appoint a manager who can continue his football philosophy.
Whelan hopes to have a new man in place by the end of the week, with Steve McClaren and Owen Coyle the front runners.
And new Everton boss Martinez said: “I hope the philosophy is something that can be embraced. In many ways, it represents what Wigan has become.”
Whelan revealed he may interview as many as 15 candidates, with Alex Ferguson recommending his old Manchester United staff Mike Phelan and Rene Meulensteen.
But Whelan is believed to be a fan of MK Dons chief Karl Robinson.
