I have a say

FERNANDINHO sacrificed £4million to make sure his dream move to Manchester City went through.

City paid Shakhtar Donetsk £30m for the Brazilian midfielder, 28, but there was an outstanding £4m due to the player as part of his contract.

Neither club was prepared to pay it, so Fernandinho simply gave it up to ensure the transfer did not collapse.

He said: “This is a change, a challenge and a chance that I have been waiting a long time for.

“Playing in the Premier League for City is like a dream. My ambition here is to win all the titles.

“Professionally, this is a spectacular thing.

“Playing for a huge club in a huge league makes me so happy.

“I hope I will be able to repay City for what they have done for me.”

Fernandinho, who agreed a five-year deal worth £140,000 a week, is the second signing of the Manuel Pellegrini era at the Etihad, following £21m Spain winger Jesus Navas.

Chilean Pellegrini will officially be unveiled as boss on Monday.
