DIVINE INSPIRATION ... Lamps & Co will need a helping hand to see off the Brazilians in Rio
ROY HODGSON insists he is “more than happy” with the job he is doing for misfiring England.
And he has vowed the Three Lions will be back in Brazil for next year’s World Cup finals — despite having to play four more qualifying games.
Boss Hodgson shrugged off Gary Lineker’s 4-4-2 “dark ages” jibe after the shambles against the Republic of Ireland.
Hodgson, whose men face Brazil tonight, said: “I’m more than happy with the way we are playing and moving forward. I am looking forward to coming back again next year.
“I’m perfectly happy for anyone who wants to come up with criticism, they are quite entitled to it.
“If we want to qualify we’ve got four matches in which to do it and there’s no point regretting points we’ve dropped already.
“We’ll work on the ones that are there to get.”
England are struggling for numbers with crocks Danny Welbeck (knee) and Daniel Sturridge (ankle) sidelined, while Andy Carroll pulled out before Hodgson’s squad met up.
It means only Wayne Rooney and Jermain Defoe are left as recognised strikers — and Defoe has had an Achilles problem.
Theo Walcott could yet be pressed into service as an emergency frontman.
Hodgson added: “I am picking a team at the end of the season with the players available.”
