BRENDAN RODGERS is set to hand Kolo Toure a Premier League lifeline.
The Manchester City centre-back can leave on a free, now his contract is up.
And Liverpool boss Rodgers wants him to help plug the gap left in the heart of his backline by the retiring Jamie Carragher.
The Anfield veteran, 35, played his final game on Sunday — and Rodgers admitted he faces a massive task in filling his boots.
He is still in the market for a top-line defender and is keen to land Brazilian hardman Douglas, 25, from FC Twente.
Swansea skipper Ashley Williams is also still on his hitlist.
But Rodgers is after Ivory Coast defender Toure, 32, as well to give him more depth, with Sebastian Coates also likely to leave Anfield and doubts over Martin Skrtel.
Toure has fallen way down the pecking order since joining City in a £16million switch from Arsenal in 2009.
